Home

I'm finally home. I don't think I've ever been so happy to come home from a trip in my life. The super smart Director that I travelled with decided it would be a great idea for me to go over our quarter close (aka Hell Week). So, not only was everyone super busy at headquarters because I wasn't there to do my job so they had to do it, but I had the privilege of working 4 12-hour days (one with complete jet lag). It was great. Sadly, I was unable to see anything. Oh wait, I did see a sign for the exit to a castle that was mentioned in The Six Wives of Henry VIII.

I have mixed feelings about England as a whole- I think that's due to my expectations. You know, I read historical fiction/non-fiction and watch plenty of movies so, obviously, I knew what England was like. The biggest thing that I still can't get over is how horrible the trees look. Really, the trees in desert Utah are way more attractive. All of the trees there look like someone kicked them in the gut and they haven't ever gotten over it. I'm not quite sure why that's unbelievable to me. My boss brought up a good point- London was such a dirty city for hundreds of years. Even though it's cleaned up now it's environment is still trying to get over it.

My coworker in the UK office asked me if we have a lot of rats over here. My only thought was 'Rats, are you kidding me?' She also told me that the rat population there is forever increasing. Disgusting. I don't have a problem with anything I can step on and squish, but rats? I want to stay away from any place that has an abundance of creatures that can carry viruses and diseases that can wipe out the human population. It was also fun to take a stroll around town while getting lunch everyday instead of driving. I do also have a new found appreciation for round-a-bouts. I hate it when I'm sitting at a light and no one is in sight but just in case there's a camera, I mean to follow the law, I would never run it. Problem solved with round-a-bouts.

In case you're wondering, I was able to pack everything into my carry-on bag. It weighed 1000 pounds but at least I didn't have to worry about losing anything.

On a side note, I am watching Sleepy Hollow- not the one with Christina Ricci but one made by PBS or something (with Rachelle LeFerve- two points if you know who she is). I just saw a part that bugged me. So Ichabod Crane is wandering through the woods late at night and sees a man on a horse riding around. Naturally, he starts singing at the top of the lungs. Honestly, real smart. That will get the crazy spooky man to go away.

  1. Oh Ashley I'm so sorry that London was a disappointment! I am glad though that you didn't have to lose your luggage due to your smart packing. :) That would've made things much worse. And ugh about the rats and ugly trees. Maybe next trip will be better...? I hope so anyway.

  2. Lol, I LOVE how the whole post was about your trip and then you get to the last paragraph...it made me laugh. You can tell how much that scene bothered you. So bad that you completely changed the subject to add that in there.

I am sorry that you didn't enjoy England. I personally loved the culture and seeing the differences between there and America. However, I don't blame you for the rats. It wouldn't be much fun to have them everywhere.

  3. I'm sorry London was crappy. When do you go back? Maybe it won't be so bad next time when you know what to expect... And quite honestly, if I was riding a horse and heard some random man singing, pretty sure I'd run away as fast as I could. Ooh! Maybe you could start singing at the top of your lungs when you go back to England and scare the rats away! (Don't sound too pretty though, because then you might pull an Enchanted and they'll try to clean or something)
