The Netherlands

After Keaton's farewell I went to the Netherlands for a few weeks. I stayed in Helmond, about two hours south of Amsterdam, where my work has an office. It is a charming, little, European town. The hotel was right next to a canal and the main square.

It also has a castle and quite a few of the cube houses. They are so weird.

It was difficult to find places to eat. It seemed like the places around the office didn't open until after lunch time and the places close to the hotel closed before dinner. Luckily, the Dutch love their frites. I don't think it's a secret that potatoes are one of my favorite foods so I was more than happy to eat french fries with every meal. I guess I should say fries with mayo, which is actually pretty good.

Over the weekend I went to Amsterdam. I think my favorite things about Amsterdam are the architecture and the canals. I was surprised at how small the city actually is. I was a total tourist - think double decker bus, canal tour, stopping to take pictures every second. It was great.

Overall, I had a great trip. Practically everyone spoke English and people were very helpful in getting me on the right trains and suggesting places to eat and visit.

  2. How fun! It looks like a very interesting place to visit. Those cube houses really are bizarre. I wonder why someone thought they were a good idea? I'm glad you had some time to see the sights and not just work 24/7. (Although I'm sure you also did plenty of work!) Sheila

  7. Did that one shop in your picture really sell Cannabis seeds? I guess that would explain how they came up with the idea for the cube houses!
