I think if we were to sum up the last week, exhausting is definitely a word we would use.
Scott has been in school over a week now and has his first test next Friday. I think his world will be a lot better once that is over and he has an idea of what to expect for exams. He goes to school from 8 to 5/6ish every day, comes home and eats dinner, then studies until 11. It makes me want to vomit. He is enjoying it but he hardly has free time. He also spends time on the weekends studying and puts in extra hours in the lab. He especially loves the fat cadaver he gets to dissect.
I have spent most of the last week getting everything organized. Easy, I know, but boring and tiring. Everything is finally unpacked. My new friend Katie and I had some great adventures (her husband is a second year med student). We decided we were going to try and get our PA driver's licenses. Sounds simple, but everyone we had talked to said they had to go multiple times before their paperwork was accepted and Katie had already been rejected. We got all of our documents organized and risked life and limb driving through ghetto Harrisburg to get to PennDot. We then realized that it was Monday and the driver's license division is closed on Monday. We ended up going shopping instead! We did try again Tuesday and we both were able to get our licenses! It really isn't that exciting but I was glad I wasn't rejected. We also drove to Carlisle because Katie had to have her fingerprints taken (she is going to be student teaching at Hershey Elementary this semester). It was a far drive but we discovered this great Italian shaved ice place that puts custard on top of the shaved ice. It is delicious! We were even more excited when we realized that it is part of a chain and there is one about 10 miles from where we live. I'm sure in future posts you'll be hearing all about Rita's Ice. Custard. Happiness.
I started my job on Wednesday and it has already been quite the adventure. I have about 20 pages of notes, a few charts of accounts to learn, and some books to read. I love being at work from 8-5 then having to come home and study. I do love where I work. Everyone is nice and helpful and most don't have an "accountant personality." I am actually surprised at how laid back most of the people in my department are. Another lady started the same day I did so it's nice not to be the only new person. I think once I get the hang of what I need to do I will have an exciting job. They really want me to get my CPA. Since I most likely will pursue it, I'm sure our blog will never be updated again.
I also started going to the gym (by started I mean I went once to sign up and once tonight). Katie likes to run so she helps keep me motivated. We actually have a system we're going to try. She lives 1-2 miles away so she is going to run to my house then we'll run to the gym and do strength training there. We'll see how that goes.
I think that is everything that is going on. For my birthday/first test is over weekend we are going to go to Mt. Gretna. It's like the Park City of the area, or so I'm told. Perhaps we'll have some exciting stories to share in the next post. Sorry my life is so boring but really, what do you expect from a tax accountant?
Your life is so much more exciting than mine!!
ReplyDeleteHey, will you e-mail me your address. I want to mail you a birthday card :)
Tax Accountant! I love it! The big CPA huh? I feel like I haven't talked to you in forever because we only talk for like 2 seconds at a time. I am so glad you like your job. It helps a lot when that happens. That custard place sounds delish. We have one like that here in Ogden and I LOVE it!
