Down with Frosting

My friend at work and I are very close. We started working the same day so I think that helped us bond. Our cubes are right by each other, though the ever lovely cube wall does not allow us to see each other, and we eat lunch together everyday unless there is no time for lunch.

Saturday is her birthday and she is taking off Friday to celebrate. I thought I would make homemade oreos to bring in tomorrow not only for her birthday, but also to enjoy a delicious moment to break up the work day. It seems I am at my wits end after January. I mean, no one likes working 120 hours of overtime in one month (well, maybe one person I know does, but I certaintly don't).

Anyway, here's how they turned out.

I can never manage to make my frosting thick enough, whether it's for cookies, brownies, or cakes. Sure, it tastes delicious, but the presentation doesn't quite say, "Happy Birthday. Glad we're friends. Thanks for listening to me moan and groan about lame work stuff." Oh well. Maybe I'll have mastered my frosting technique by next year.

  1. If the frosting is too runny for your liking, try adding more of the "powder substance." I always add more powdered sugar (or what ever kind of heavy powder base you're adding) to make the frosting thicker.

Hope that helps! They look delicious!

  4. That's funny, I have the same problem! I've done the exact same thing! Maybe we should take a frosting class or something! :)

  5. Poor Ashley! It's disappointing to put so much work into them and have them turn out not quite as you expect, but I'll bet they tasted good anyway. Have I given you my cream cheese frosting recipe? It's divine on homemade oreos and couldn't be easier:
    8 oz cream cheese
    1 stick butter
    3-1/2 cups powdered sugar
    2 tsp vanilla
Make sure cream cheese and butter are room temperature, then stick them all in a mixer bowl and beat well. Sheila

  7. The cookies look delicious! Could you post the recipe please? I like that Grandma J posted a frosting and would like to see the one you made as well. I agree too with Mallory, add more of the powdered sugar (at least that is what I would do if I had the same problem). Just happened to be wandering around in the blog site and happened upon your blog. Will follow now in case you post the recipes. Thanks and Happy Valentines Day everyone! Cynthia
