d.c.

scott finished up his surgery rotation last week, so we decided to take a quick trip to d.c. before his next rotation.

i think we stopped by every touristy place:

the white house
capitol
the smithsonian castle

we went to the natural history museum, the air and space museum, and the art museums.

this elephant is life-size
cool bones
turtle bones
the hope diamond. yes, please!

in between our museum visits we grabbed a quick lunch at one of the cafeterias. i had the most disgusting pizza that tasted like cardboard, cost about $8, and was super small.

next we checked out the monuments/memorials:

washington monument
jefferson memorial
jefferson memorial, again

while walking to the lincoln memorial, we happened upon the fdr memorial. at first we weren't sure what to make of it - it has four separate outside rooms, one for each of his terms, but the more we walked around the more we liked it.

we also met up with our friend mike who is doing an internship. we went to a delicious mexican restaurant called oyamel that's only a few blocks away from the national mall. the chips and salsa were excellent and they had awesome guacamole (and i don't really care for guacamole). we also tried french fries that had mole poblano sauce, chilis, and chocolate. they tasted interesting to me, but scott loved them.

before we headed back to hershey, we made a quick stop to see brian, brooklin, and their cute kids. even though they only live a few hours away, this was the first time we had seen them in a few years. hopefully we can make it down again soon!

  1. What a fun trip! I'm glad you guys got to spend a little quality time after not seeing each other EVER. I really liked the FDR memorial when we went there too--definitely different from the other ones.
