I don't have a lot of free time, but when I do I get feeling ambitious with what I want to accomplish with it. So I have taken up a little bit of gardening. It makes me feel like an old man because it isn't a really exciting hobby like rock climbing or stamp collecting, but whatever. I enjoy it. In the fall I planted a bunch of tulips and daffodils. They came up in the spring and ended up looking very nice. Here Mom, now you can see your grandflowers grow before your eyes.

Then in the spring I got feeling more ambitious. We were shopping at Sam's Club and they had this random display of hibiscus trees in the frozen food aisle. So we made an impulse purchase. A few days after we bought it, all the blossoms fell off so now it just looks like a boring green tree. But here's a picture with one of its blossoms still attached.

Then school was finished and so I figured I would take on a few more plants. We bought a couple planters, attached them to our patio railing, and planted some herbs. We decided to grow some basil, lemon basil, rosemary, chives, and cilantro. They are coming along nicely. I am going to use some of the lemon basil and rosemary to make some rotisserie chicken this week and we are going to use some of the cilantro for our Cafe Rio night tomorrow. Exciting, I know.

So that's what has been going on lately. Now that it is summer, I should have more stuff to post since my life will consist of a little bit more than just studying and eating with the occasional bit of sleep. Until next time.
Yay! Thanks for updating your blog. I loved finally seeing my grandflowers!
ReplyDeleteMy my, what a lovely green thumb you have! (I HATE the phrase "green thumb") But your gardening skillz are very impressive. However, purchasing trees in the frozen food aisle probably isn't the wisest thing to do... guess you got what you deserved.
ReplyDeleteYay! My nieceflowers and nephewflowers! I love that you have an old man hobby. But I wish you were around here so you could help me with my GREEN THUMB (that's for you, Nat). I struggle with gardening. But I'm so excited you're having a cafe rio night! Are you by chance using the recipes from our family cooking blog!?
ReplyDeleteHaha.. when I first started reading this, I was like, "This can't be right... Ashley?! Gardening?!" Then I realized it was you, Scott. Bahahaha. You should be very proud of what you've produced. And way to be exotic with the cilantro... :)
ReplyDeleteI am so excited that I have nephewflowers and neiceflowers too! What exciting news about your flowers! They look so pretty!
ReplyDeleteRemember your phase with those trees that you cut in shapes? Is it bonsai?? So this just fits. I think it is a great hobby and only wish either Craig or I was even partly good at it!! Of course then neither of us cook, so what would be the point of cilantro or parsley or whatever. We are pretty lame, and I think YOU are pretty IMPRESSIVE!!
