Alicante

Alicante was our first stop in Spain. We went to the Castillo de Santa Barbara, a sweet castle that sits a top one of the hills. It was really neat and provided great views.

After we drove through downtown and went to the main plaza and city council building. It was beautiful and included a sculpture by Salvador Dali, art, and it even has a chapel so that both civil and religious marriages can be performed by the city officials. It also has a room with pictures of all the mayors.

We then went to another cave, which was cool but not unlike the cave in Gibraltar or caves in the U.S. It was also made worse since we were the only people on the tour under the age of 60 and had to wait for the older and less agile folks to descend and then ascend 200 stairs in a confined space. Not fun.

After the tour we explored the main area. We found a local restaraunt and ordered arroz and paella, walked the explanada, and sampled horchata. We also went back to the main plaza to use the free wifi.

The climate was so comfortable! They average 300 sunny days a year. Why do we not live here?

And just for good measure, here's another pretty sunset.
